Jim has BSc (Hons) and MSc degrees in Geology, and over 30 years of oil industry experience (including 24 years specialising in petroleum geochemistry), chiefly with BHP Petroleum. More recently, from 2002-2008, he worked as an independent consultant for numerous clients that included BHP Billiton Petroleum, Santos, Apache, Woodside and Chevron.  He has worked extensively in Australia, particularly on the NW margin, and various basins in overseas countries, including New Zealand, PNG, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Kenya, Libya and Gulf of Mexico.  His skill-set comprises the evaluation and interpretation of analytical geochemical data at both exploration and reservoir scales, and their application to the calibration of basin modelling using software packages such as Genex (Beicip/IFP), and Genesis-Trinity (Zetaware).

David has strong geotechnical and software skills developed through industry sponsored studies, previous employment with small exploration companies and current employment with 3D-GEO. David is highly proficient at conducting seismic interpretation, structural interpretation/restoration, thermal/maturity and facies modelling. He has experience working on data-sets from the Bass, Carnarvon, Canning, Taranaki, Cooper/Eromanga, Gippsland and Otway Basins, the offshore Baram Delta Province (Brunei Darussalam), offshore Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak) and the Papuan Fold Belt. David is also highly proficient with various mapping, interpretation and modelling packages such as Kingdom (SMT), Petrel (Schlumberger), 2D/3D Move (Midland Valley), Lithotect (Halliburton), Trinity and Genesis (Zetaware) as well as many others.

David has recently completed a PhD thesis at Monash University, supervised by Prof Mike Hall and Dr Jeff Keetley. This project involved seismic/structural interpretation, 3D facies modelling and 3D charge modelling of the onshore Otway Basin. He completed his Honours BSc in Basin Analysis of the Bass Basin at Monash University in 2010.
